The Novel Jazz
Septet will begin a new year of performances at Skidompha
Library on Thursday, February 9, 2012, 7-9:30PM. Skidompha’s Novel
Jazz evenings began eight years ago with the observation that lovers
of books often are lovers of jazz. Moreover, the superb acoustics
of Skidompha’s atrium, plus the seating “in the round”, make it a
great place to see and hear the performance, all in a relaxed,
informal atmosphere.
The band will be mixing things up a little this evening with
three special guests.
Pete Blue will be appearing on
piano. Pete is a professional pianist, arranger and conductor. He
began his musical career in the Seattle jazz scene in the 60's,
played in Las Vegas during the Elvis era, was a session player in
Nashville through the 70's, and then relocated to Manhattan where,
for three decades, he worked on Broadway and Off-Broadway and in
cabaret, jazz and country music venues. He became a full-time
resident of Harpswell in 2010.
Brent Strombeck will be guest in the reed section playing
tenor saxophone. Brent has played in small jazz ensembles, big
bands, rock bands and shows backing up entertainers around Boston
and New England, New York City as well as on the road around the
country. He is a Berklee College of Music graduate in woodwind
performance. Brent has lived in Maine since 1995.
Last, but not least, Chris Rogers will be playing drums.
Chris has been performing with renowned musicians for more than 40
years. He is a versatile drummer, playing a myriad of different
styles; he has toured throughout New England, Canada and overseas to
England. Chris's music is his vocation and he strives for
simplicity, purity, and precision in his playing. He has two major
label recordings to his credit, and is a requested studio player.
